Note: All public access computers have usb ports for pen drives. On the new gray computers the ports are in the front. On the older white computers, ports are in the back. These are not easily accessible. Use the newer computers if possible.
To Save:
1.) Go to File > Save As (if you receive the message: “This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions In effect…” just click the OK button. The save options box will still appear.)
2.) In the File name box type: f:\ or e:\ Follow this with the name of the file to be saved. (Which to use? Click once on the hardware icon at bottom right of screen. The unplug message will include letter of the drive.)
Note: This works for saving Word documents, websites, pdf, html.
However, when saving an html article from Academic Search Premier, it is necessary to change the Save as type selection. (This is the box just below the File name box.) For Academic Search it is necessary to select Webpage, HTML only.
To Confirm and/or Open:
1.) In Microsoft Word: Select Open. In File name, type f:\ (or e:\) All files on the disk will be displayed. Files can be opened, edited, printed.
2.) From Webpage: Select Open > Browse All files on disk will be displayed, but it will not be possible to open them due to restrictions in place.
To Disconnect pen drive:
1.) Close all windows and documents that were used with pen drive. ·
2.) Click once on hardware icon at bottom right of screen. You will see small message box: “Stop USB mass storage device”.
3.) Click once on message box. Second message will appear: “USB mass storage device can now be safely removed from the system.”
4.) Remove pen drive.
