Dear Reference Team -
Hello and welcome back! I have a several announcements from the Instruction (Information Literacy) department for the beginning of the year.
1)TOURS - we have a library volunteer, Carolyn Taschdjian, who will be giving the basic library tour (all semester) every Monday/Wednesday from 11:00a to 12:00p (assembly hour) starting in the library lobby. Everyone, including visitors, is welcome on the tour and each participant will receive a certificate of completion. There is no need for individuals to sign up but if an instructor would like their entire class to attend at the same time, please have the instructor send me an email so we don't get too many people at once. As you wish, please stop by at the beginning of a tour to introduce yourselves to Carolyn.
2)THE EXEMPTION EXAM (LALT 101) - different from years past, the Exemption Exam for the LALT 101 course will now be given during the first week of classes in the regularly scheduled classtime. This means that students must officially enroll in a section of LALT 101 to take the exemption exam. All grades will be released by the end of the day on which the test is taken. Only a score of 80 or above indicates a student is exempt - grades are viewed through WebCT. The complete list of Exempt students will be sent BY ME to the registrar by Sept. 12. The students don't need to do anything.
3)THE 4TH FLOOR - we've had some changes! Nicole's office is now next to mine and we share the phone x6356. The lock & key for the classroom have been changed and Reference has a new key.
4)THE CLASSROOM - each week (until I "go online") the classroom schedule will be sent out as an attachment through email. Every morning I open the classroom just before 8A. The classroom is usually closed (locked if not shut down) by the last person to teach, library automation also helps with this process. I will give an overview of the opening and closing procedures for those who are interested or need to know how to open/close towards the end of the second week of classes. And, as usual, for those who teach in the classroom, please report any and all problems with equipment or heating/AC, etc. on the whiteboard. For emergencies, directly contact Library Automation.
5)THE IL WEBPAGE - we've updated our webpage. During the summer with help from library automation, we freshened up our site. Notably ALL LALT101 course information is available online to EVERYONE. We will continue to enhance our site and welcome suggestions!
I know I may have given you more information than you need but I share this with all of you in case you are asked questions at the desk. If anything is unclear, please let me know. Our LALT teaching schedule will be posted at the desk. Thanks & happy Fall semester, Alison.
